Twitter and fake profiles

Twitter and fake profiles - 07/17/19 07:19 PM

Currently on Twitter a scammer has duplicated my profile (adding an extra s to Mistress) and is contacting my followers asking for money. When I reported the profile to Twitter saying I was being impersonated they sent back a form email stating they would only look into it if I sent them a copy of my government ID (which will not say Mistress Ayn) or proof of registration of your trade name or pseudonym. I looked into a trade mark and found that your real name becomes attached to it and others can see that information online. I could do a more convoluted approach and register my name through my company, but I am not sure that would satisfy Twitter and ultimately I think that could be traced back to my legal name too.

Have any of you Ladies registered your pseudonym and if so how did you do it? Anyone else have a suggestion?

When you have mistresses sending cease and desist to other mistresses like recently in mistress Mara's case this might be an issue. To my mind proving that somebody infringes a trademark is sufficient even if you cannot prove that it's yours, but I am not a lawyer.

Tell that to Twitter. The problem with the Twitter beast is that you seldom deal with a real person.

There are two distinct problems. If you want to own a trademark untraceable to you I am sure there are ways to do that, but they would take time and money. Probably some combination of LLC or trusts. Each state and most countries have some form of LLC and there has to exist some that suit your purpose.

But I am not sure how effective this would be in combating scams like you mention, because the due process might take too long. Probably a more immediate response like mobilizing your followers to protest would get a quicker answer from Twitter.

I've mobolized the troops and many have reported it but Twitter continues to turn a blind eye. If Twitter would just do their job and use a little common sense, none of this would be necessary. Talk about uneven moderation. Twitter allows us to be impersonated yet will delete our profiles without even giving a reason.

I can't find the fake account in a Twitter search, perhaps they have taken care of it.

They have blocked me so it's almost impossible for me to find them without a direct link but there it is. When people tried to report the account as fake, the twitter application wouldn't even let them put my user name in. So everyone started reporting them as spam. I haven't gotten anymore reports of them contacting people I know, but I would appreciate it if everyone here would report the account too.

Just be careful and don't accidently report mine. Mine is the one that actually has a few followers, spells Mistress correctly and has functioning website links. mad

This was over two weeks ago and it's still up.

It's not letting me report because neither of the subject accounts are coming up in the "reportable" list.

It seems a pretty half assed phishing attempt.
The web site is non-existant.
Have you gotten any reports of people extorted for money under your name?

Eventually this is either an attempt to harass you, or an attempt to steal. If it is the second at some point the scammer has to provide for a way to pay, at which point some pointer to his real identity can be found. One way to try to do that would be to let a friend play the role of the victim, find the payment method and report the scammer.

Twitter at its finest.

Re: Twitter and fake profiles - 07/18/19 03:03 PM

I think it's just supposed to fool the eye not necessarily lead them anywhere. They are private messaging my followers. Only two people said they asked for money and then they figured out it wasn't me. Everyone else figured it out before it got that far.

Far worse scams used to happen on backpage. Scammers would run visiting ads with legitimate Dommes photos and email addresses that were close to the Dommes actual email. Then they would ask for deposits to book. I know several subs that were taken that way. The good news was that all you had to do was email backpage from the email address on your website and complain and they would take it down. Twitter is impossible to deal with.

Research, that time old life-saver on both sides.

What I would give for reasonable customer service!

This spoof profile finally got taken down. Thanks to everyone that reported it because Twitter didn't give a tinker's damn what I thought.

I'm glad you got the fake profile taken down. Twitter is a fuckin' Disaster with all the credibility of the national enquirer.

Re: Twitter and fake profiles - 07/30/19 10:52 AM

I just had the same interaction with Twitter. The issue for me was use of my photo, along with those of Miss Ria Harpsichord. Even though the imposter is not using my name, twitter still wants identification, so I am attempting to use other options on the "report" menu. With gross sub accounts, I've had the best luck reporting as spam, though there is a "this account is fake" option. Has anyone had success with this?

If you are willing to report, the handle is @ MarieDominatrix
Much appreciated

Re: Twitter and fake profiles - 07/30/19 11:20 AM

I just reported it as spam, fake profile.

I am not sure Twitter will do anything about them using your photos. There was someone on Facebook once using a Domme's pic as their main profile pic and Facebook said, "sorry, this isn't a violation". WTF? Twitter is even worse at enforcing violations than FB.

The profile that was spoofing me was actually asking subs for money, pretending to be me. However, when people went in to report it as impersonating someone else, it wouldn't let them put my twitter handle in the "who are they impersonating" section. So, I asked everyone to report it as spam. It took about 3 weeks.

I just asked the sub that got the official notification that the profile was in violation and taken down to tell me exactly how he reported it. If it was something other than spam I will report back here.

Good luck! I know how frustrating this is.

I'm very sorry, Mistress Ayn. I can't stand this kind of shit. I reported the account for you as well.

Re: Twitter and fake profiles - 07/31/19 12:59 PM

This is how the sub said he reported it and he eventually got a reply back from Twitter saying they had taken the profile down.

"Go to offending profile, choose “They’re pretending to be me or someone else”, then enter the actual user they are impersonating. Enough do that and it should work eventually."

However, I had others say the process wouldn't allow them to put my twitter handle in as the actual user being impersonated. Plus, I don't know if that will work for just photos. You can report individual tweets that contain your image but again, I'm not sure how responsive Twitter will be. Good Luck!
