Stopping Nuisance Spam Calls on IPhone - 12/11/19 11:48 AM

I am so excited about this I just have to post it. I just upgraded to the latest version of iOS and found there is a button in Settings-Phone that allows you to silence calls from non contacts and send them to Voicemail. And it actually seems to work. My phone was ringing like 3-5 times a day with these bs calls and now all I get is a notification of a missed call when I look at my phone.

Maybe this is old news to more tech savvy people here but I am very happy about this.

Yeah, it's great, but you have to remember that it's on because it's easy to miss calls you are expecting from people who are not in your contacts. I've been toggling it off and on.

I agree. It’s not perfect and will not be a good solution for everyone. For me it’s good. I get very few if any calls from non contacts and I figure the few I get can leave a voicemail if it’s important. I’m guessing the feature is a better fit on a strictly personal phone then one that’s used for work.

The Canadian "do not call" registry was used a telemarketing calling list for groups from jurisdictions outside of the reach of Canadian Law. The Caller ID information sent is frequently fake.

I regret registering, because I went from none to at least 1-2 calls a day.

The only way this might work would be to target the service that is being advertised, but this is dicey and hard to prove in court.

Sorry. This is fairly useless. I’ve been on it for years and while I’m sure it stops some calls many others don’t heed the list The truth is if it was easy as being on the Do Not Call List these annoying calls wouldn’t be a problem.

At one point I thought maybe my number expired after a certain amount of years but when I tried to register it again they said I can’t because I’m already on it.

I figured many people were already aware of this feature but that it would be helpful to some others. These calls are just a pita. I’ve had the You Mail app on my phone for awhile. It blocked some calls but not as many as rang through with a message from You Mail afterward that it was a spam call and blocked from leaving a voicemail. Big whoop. The idea is to stop these robo calls from ringing at all.

That was the case originally, but they changed it so people didn't have to re-register.
