You use "Quote" rather than "Reply" or "Quick reply" (typing in the box at the bottom of the thread)
I'm using one of the UBBThreads - dark styles to get rid of all that red background, and I'd like it if the quoted part of the reply had different contrast than the reply, but I'll bug the janitor here later about it.
