How do you make the side bars go away

I'm not seeing anything obvious in my preferences.

I've been trying to figure that out for years. I guess they must be so proud of all the useful information there that they don't want anyone to turn it off.

You can make it worse by adding a "My Stuff" column to the left of the center message column, but that's it.

I have now enabled Members ability to edit the left and right columns/sidebars. Simply go to Edit Preferences locate (Turn off the left column?)(Turn off the right column?) from the list and adjust to preference.
