Did you ever want to write a novel? There's a big event that tries to help people write a novel in a month. They do it each November:

https://www.nanowrimo.org/

I tried to do it a couple of years ago -- it was very hard, and I didn't get it done. Mostly, I was keenly aware of how *bad* my novel was.

I'm thinking I'll try to write a femdom novel this year. It will almost certainly be bad. But I'd like to actually finish one.

This sounds awesome, alex. I hope you do it.

To answer your question, yes, I did want to right a novel until, like you, I tried it and realized how hard it was. We can't be good at everything. smile

Good luck!

I think that maybe it's sort of like stand up comedy -- that you have to be willing to do it badly at first, because doing it is the only way to learn.

I don't mean to say I'll ever be really good at it. But I hope I get better this time around.

Yes I did. In fact I had a trilogy planned at one time. It had nothing to do Femdom or anything else erotic. I didn't find writing per se to be all that hard. Quite the contrary it was a lot of fun at times. I actually had the reverse problem of too many ideas popping into my head and after a while I acknowledged that the odds of getting the excessively complicated tale published---even as only E-Books by a small outfit was vanishingly small and abandoned it.

That's really cool. I envy your ability to write well.

But I think Amazon has good tools for people who want to self-publish now -- you could probably get your book out there, if you want.

I wrote what could be called a novel when I was in my 20's. It took me about 2 years and in the end was ultimately unreadable. I have no idea where it is, and, to be honest, no one is looking for it.

I dream about picking it (the writing hobby) up again someday. Not today.

I was halfway through my masterpiece named "The tale of the stuffed Viper" which was an epic saga of love, lust, loss, found, baggage claim tickets, an ice cream scoop, and a hush butt plug set in exotic locales across this great country of ours (but mostly in Butte Montana)... Then my lucky mechanical pencil broke and the local repair shop declared it a total loss, so there it sits... abandoned and alone... just like the eponymous protagonist of the story.

2,363 pages of the Great American Novel and navel staring contest (that is actually the main focus of pgs 672-746)... just needing a middle, an ending, possibly some type of story structure, some consistency in the narrative voice, and maybe slight editing for gramurr and stuff. But, the experience is too raw and using some other writing instrument just feels wrong on so many levels after all of the shared effort and sacrifice that penny and I made (penny is what I called her as she scrolled out my magnificent prose... We won't discuss what I called the butt plug).

So, to answer the question... Nope, I never wanted to write a novel, it wanted to write and control me in the same way that all abusive lovers do (or at least the good ones). So, now that I am out of that relationship thanks to Penny's great sacrifice (and a ballpeen hammer), I am never going back. I prefer something less disruptively obsessive-compulsive in my life, like a nice heroin addiction...

Oooh, heroin addiction... that's a much better story bridge between how the heroine went from being a cocktail waitress at the mob-controlled "Italian Supper Club" in Doon, Iowa to a high priced Manhattan attorney than the alien abduction, anal probing knowledge implant I used in chaoter 63(f)... Fuck you Penny... I'm back bitches... where are my orange crayons?

Edit Reason: Cause those f'n editors always have to get their mf'n way rather than allowing my artistic vision to cone through properly

I'm a reporter by trade, a journalist. Or as Jimmy Breslin once said, "Journalist? I'm a reporter. Those are college words. I don't know what they mean. I chase news." So... I've never had the urge or inspiration to write a novel. I was always too busy and that is a completely different calling.

But based on a post-session conversation three or four years ago with a domina I knew well - after she listened to one of my stories - she said, "You should write a book." If I ever did it would be a memoir and I'd have to change the names of Mistresses I knew (at least ones I didn't know if they were alive) and my own! (LOL!)

The nice thing about this site is that I get to tell a few on the forums, and for the unlucky Mistresses or subs that hit a nerve with a subject and I don't want to go public with, I've PM'd a few real-life "adventures." It seems to be therapy for me.

The "nice" part of this site is is a generational thing or just time marching on. When I was posting on maxfisch under another name 20 years ago (I forgot what it was) I witnessed and was burnt slightly by flame wars that was the rule rather than the exception.

The outside world might not be a "kinder, gentler place" right now but this BDSM forum sure is.

I actually did the NaNoWriMo thing several years ago. I found it grueling because I ran out of inspiration after about the first week but still had to put in a daily output of words to get to the 50,000 word goal. If you complete the word total, they send you a certificate that you can print out. I felt a little like Jack Nicholson in "The Shining" toward the end. If you remember, wife Shelly Duvall finds out that Jack has been writing, "All work and no play makes jack a dull boy" for hundreds of pages.
