Thank you for posting this!
There are several realities behind this outside of the greater global economy:
- age verification is collapsing the mainstream funnel
- payment processors are the shadowy cabal
- tube sites are shrinking rapidly
- social discovery has degraded due to algorithm changes
I think I have a different relationship to these things that most of my colleagues and so I'm already on the road less traveled.
I have rejected requests for IDs and prefer to leave a platform.
I never sold clips, preferring to manage that myself because I know that they like to get you dependent on them and then change the rules.
Tube sites are a non-issue for me.
I have major social media fatigue and really would be fine doing away with it entirely. I see so many people talking about the tap dances they do to exist in a place which is hostile to them. I'm tired of it all. I prefer FetLife over any social media, anyway. I mean, flaws aside, it's *for us*.
All the choices I've made over my career have meant I have less exposure and less income potential. But I do have more control and privacy and my self-respect intact, which is worth more to me than money.
The volume of AI-generated content online right now is staggering.. it's on every platform. How many of the top stores on IWC are AI today?
Sites have been slow to implement bans too, and most only ban new accounts (MV, Fansly). Enforcement is inconsistent too
AI is a serious problem, for a lot of reasons. I do hope that Dommes using it will reconsider. It's only making the problem worse.
So where has the money been going?
Direct-to-creator fanclub platforms, custom content, livestreams/cam, off-platform connections, etc. Models where creators monetize *relationships* rather than just content.
This is precisely why I prefer to focus on my own membership site and my little community there. I'd much rather share and talk with people I know, have played with, than do that dance for the 10,000 followers I had on Twitter, maybe 0.01% of whom might ever book a session. Attention is fun but it doesn't pay my mortgage.
It's creating a premium counter-market for authenticity. Most fans want a real person, a real dynamic, and they are going to pay more as the AI noise gets louder and 3rd party chatting agencies cannibalize one another.
This is one of the points I've been using when I do my anti-AI speeches. lol In a sea of fakeness, be real.
The content alone won't capture that premium the way bespoke relationships do. Just ask in-person SxWers, the OG experts on this.
In-person experiences will never die. There is nothing like being in another person's energy field, locking eyes, breathing the same air, and actually doing/having something done to you.
Tip #1: Stop optimizing for discovery volume. That window is gone and the traffic funnels are collapsing with it.
All her points are logical and I agree with her.
For the type of Domme I am and the type of clients I tend to attract, "discovery" was not through the same channels as Tik Tok Dommes or whatever. Most of my clients barely know what Tik Tok is.
As a side note, this is part of my concern with the ways in which things like social media and it's number of "insta-Dommes" and "influences" are having an effect on younger generations' understanding of BDSM culture and how that affects us as professionals, something which has changed how I discuss things with younger people who approach me and which I've made part of the mission of BDSMPros.
I have always preferred to focus on quality over quantity and an authentic, personal connection so maybe I'll finally move out of my niche!
