Fortunately Paris is a major hub for trains. This is a far more desirable way to travel. I arrive at the station, without having to leave Paris, 20-15 minutes before departure. Get a coffee and set my luggage on the car next to my seat. Then I arrive in the city center of where I am going. It's hard to connivence me to take a plane these days.


In my travels to Europe I've gone from Paris to Frankfurt, and on a couple of trips to Italy, to several Italian cities. The experiences have been excellent. In the U.S., where we seem to spend money on things other than trains, in recent years I've been on Amtrak to a couple of cities on the east coast to see relatives in Philadelphia, Boston and Baltimore. It was slower than Europe but a pleasure versus air travel... or driving!
