I used to think the same until I saw some older threads pointing out that some of it depends on which hentai anime titles you were into first. If you've been watching stuff with strong storylines or emotional depth, it's easier to get attached. For me, rewatching scenes or reading certain doujins helped me understand the appeal that others were talking about.
