My browser asked if I wanted to translate to English and I said yes!  Moments later...nothing changed. :C And that's is kind of how I feel it might go it I tried to attend. Je parle un petit peu francais. Vous parlez anglais? *pause* Blank stares. *gets out Google translate and mutters this is going to be an interesting weekend...*

Something I have found out while hanging out in Montreal so much the last couple of years, is that Quebecois & French are pronounced so differently that many native French speakers literally can't communicate in French and have to resort to English.
but, of course, they only teach you proper French instead of Quebecois if you try to take a course there... Tabarnak

I've lived here 9 years. I still feel this way. Ha! ...but at least you speak well enough, eh? I know the French appreciate the effort, so maybe I'd get by because I'd actually genuinely want to try

I tried to practice French there but didn't remember everything and would switch back and forth mid sentence. Not a blink from anyone. hahahaha

The French, in general, appreciate the effort. Parisians. . . well. . .
My French is clumsy and inelegant but effective. I often get a scrunched-up look from Parisians I have dubbed "Parisian Rat Face." I lean in on being American—Americans are seen as friendly and lovable but stupid. I speak excellent French for a Golden Retriever. Hah!

Pronunciation in France is so important and my biggest stumbling block. I can visualize the word, then have to think what letters are pronounced and at what intensity. The best way to explain it is that the French get bored of the word before it's finished.
