This might be useful to know for those dealing with stalkers.

X.com now lets users you blocked see your Tweets.

The only way to make it stop is to protect your Tweets, but I *think* that reduces the number of people who can see them.

Any resourceful stalker could just create a second account anyway to see your Tweets.

It absolutely reduces the visibility of an account to only allow followers you approve to see your tweets. You are no longer searchable, your tweets can not be retweeted even by those who do follow you, among other things. Also, the attitude of new people towards you is completely different in a lot of cases (leading to your being blocked just for trying to interact).

For someone who is just a private person & not using Twitter for advertising or promotion, being private is no big deal (I have at least one account that is totally private) but it is a fetish account that I don't use to interact with anyone beyond following & bookmarking stuff. But, it definitely has a major downside in tegards to actually engaging with people.

Blocking only helps with annoying DMs. Stalkers gonna stalk and get a second account. As a side note--as I do--I hate how exposed my business is on social media, but it is how someone has to promote.

I really have to be out. People will find my socials, so it's best to be out in front of it. Unfortunately, it has been a nightmare for my romantic partners in the past decade, as well. Their friends find my social media, and they are outted, too. Not only is this incredibly uncomfortable for them, but it is devastating in custody battles.

That app is dying for various reasons. This is just another step towards the grave, but not a deal breaker--yet.

Reading this thread reminded me of the short-lived "Switter" which was intended to be a social media platform that offered more privacy protection but a quick search confirmed it shut down a few years ago

https://switter.at/

I also learned last year of an effort based in the UK to develop some new tools that would offer more protection for online content providers, but that too isn't really a solution to the problem here of people trying to balance ordinary person's expectations for privacy and the reach of social media for people who need or want to seek a broad social and commercial audience.

I think moment that tension passed the point of new return was when Anthony Weiner, the frontrunning candidate for Mayor of New York City, outed himself by sending a DM to Sidney Leathers as a public post.....

Switter was poorly run & moderated as a social networking site so it went from a good idea to a bust pretty quickly (I signed up in the first week or so it was around).

BUT, it did birth tryst.link when the providers wanting to advertise services overwhelmed the platform so the developers (Assembly Four) created a new secure platform outside of US jurisdiction just for that purpose.

Ah that is interesting. I like Tryst as an advertising platform. I approve of this evolution.

Maybe Elon wanted to do away with the block feature so he could dwell and fester over all the people who shit-talked him? (I’m being sarcastic here!)

Those are the ones that aren't looking to hurt you. They are just that, trolls. The real threats create new accounts and stalk.
