Hi, I want to keep my phone on (and silent) during the session, to avoid questions from my partner, about phone being switched off for the duration of the session.

Is there a risk in keeping the phone on? Or is it better to switch it off? What do you guys do?

I always try to switch it off out of respect for my Domme & not wanting to disturb the flow. However, I also don't have any specific reason to leave it on as you do.

Only downside I see either way (since you aren't answering it even if your partner calls), is forgetting to turn it back on after the session. Not sure how your partner will know if you have it turned off versus putting it on "Do not Disturb" or just ignoring it because you were "busy" during that time but everyone's situation is different.

I just turn my volume down and put it on do not disturb.

I have for long sessions (2 hours or more) thought about asking in advance for an “intermission” to check messages. Not just for partner messages, but work and what not. My only concern is it would totally mess with my headspace depending on what was on the phone lol, so I’ve never actually done this.

I think you would be wiser to leave it on and simply silence it. You can always create some excuse for not answering the call. I was in a meeting, in the bathroom, left it in the car etc. Maybe you could use "the turned it off while in a meeting" excuse but that could be a tough sell depending on what you do for a living.

Having it go directly to VM means you made an obvious decision to avoid calls and depending on your circumstances that could have serious consequences both personally and professionally.

Personally, I have found to much easier to be sure to call back asap after the session and simply say sorry I missed your call for any of the reasons above.

Muting the phone is important to me even if I know the call is eventually going to VM. I don't want to hear the ringtone which would completely blow the session vibe for me.

I absolutely loathe when a phone rings or vibrates during a session - so from the Domme's perspective, make sure it is completely silenced.

Regarding risks, it depends. Would someone go so far as to track your phone to see your location? I've had subs turn their phone off at a "normal" location so if tracked that would show as their last location.

Regarding "do not disturb", on my Android I can set it to ring if someone calls twice within 15 minutes - meaning your phone would ring if she called twice in a row. Don't know if you would want that to happen but if there is a real emergency, at least you would know.

I will be in an all day event before the session, so I am going to switch it off during the session (with excuse no charge).

Mistress Ayn, I am not worried about tracking but paranoid about phone calls getting connected accidentally or something being recorded accidentally.

I actually turn my phone off a block or so away from entering the dungeon, not because I have anyone to track me but just a general paranoia of Big Data. Also, I excessively worry about an errant butt dial or something. So, yes, the phone is always off.

A little paranoia is good. I once was saying goodbye to a sub on his way out the door and he looked down at his phone and saw he had pocket dialed a friend. At least part of our discussion was recorded on voice-mail. So be particularly careful of touching your phone while still in the studio.

I’ve been meaning to respond to this. I’ve always thought I was the only one with this issue which has been a perennial one for me ever since cell phones became popular. I don’t have opportunity to session much anymore but for starters I always tried to schedule my sessions when I was least likely to get a text or call. However many times I would just have to ask the Domme if I could leave my phone on silent. This sucked but most understood I had a lot going on and agreed to it. Depending on the situation sometimes I’d ask the Domme to just check my phone at the halfway point of the session. Like I said this sucked but there were many times I would receive a text or call. Most I could just ignore for an hour or two but I remember a few times having to respond. Not fun or enjoyable.
