Reading this thread reminded me of the short-lived "Switter" which was intended to be a social media platform that offered more privacy protection but a quick search confirmed it shut down a few years ago

I also learned last year of an effort based in the UK to develop some new tools that would offer more protection for online content providers, but that too isn't really a solution to the problem here of people trying to balance ordinary person's expectations for privacy and the reach of social media for people who need or want to seek a broad social and commercial audience.

I think moment that tension passed the point of new return was when Anthony Weiner, the frontrunning candidate for Mayor of New York City, outed himself by sending a DM to Sidney Leathers as a public post.....
