i think that 8th floor would be caligula if they had cast a man. i don't know if 8th floor really cared about control as much as creating a spectacle. caligula's motivation was to grant his people true freedom. he didn't think he could do this for anyone, it was something that people had to seize for themselves. he believed people didn't do this because they were too comfortable. by making them miserable, he was giving them their freedom. it was the only way (in his mind) to give them freedom. 8 by contrast, whether she had power or control, was intent on some sort of deconstructionist statement. she was willing to do anything to create this spectacle, including terrorizing and enslaving her castmates. 8, 6, and 1 were completely committed to continuing the spectacle at any cost.
