I've noticed a few Doms here and on MF mention that prodomming is not their primary job. In all of the years that I've in in the prodom scene, I've met very few doms that work outside of prodomming. It is difficult to image how someone would have time for both. Is this getting to be common place now?

My professional experience has been limited to foot parties. The ladies I've gotten to know, including the one who organizes the events, all have full time vanilla jobs or are college students. One of my close friends is a full time professional dominatrix. She does in person sessions, travels and works online. She makes crazy money but it looks exhausting. I'm content to only dabble. It keeps it fun and stress free.

I don't know how commonplace it is, but in the early 2000s until around 2010 I was a regular with a Dom in Vegas. Saw her once, twice a year when I traveled there or she traveled to the East Coast. She was around 50: a former showgirl, she did some voice acting but was mostly a fitness trainer. She dabbled in professionally as she got older, but soon went full tilt into Domination at her condo or hotels after I met her. Had her own website, produced her own videos, did some phone sessions (at least with me) and traveled nationwide regularly. She hardly did any fitness training anymore.

By 2010 the grind got to her, hustling and trying to keep her face and ID offline, since her family and friends didn't know about her Domina career. She dropped kink to focus on fitness training again, and has become very successful as a trainer fulltime. I don't see how you can be a part time Domina. I give a hat tip to any ladies who can do that.

Of the ones I've played with and got that far in conversation, it's easily a third of them that Dommed on the side. I wouldn't think time is the issue, none were really active on social media. They just played as opportunity presented itself. Seems like ending up being outed would be the biggest concern.

Of the many Dommes I've seen I know of only two who had full time jobs. They were both very good, equal to full time players.
But they're not well known, having limited the number of people they've seen, and have fewer resources to gain broad exposure.

Ive gotten to know several doms personally over the years. Id say the majority were grad students and being a pro domme offered good income and flexibility. A fair amount used domination as their main income and did pretty well especially in the last few years. I know a few did gig jobs like artwork and modeling to supplement as well. The smallest minority had a vanilla job.

I dont session much anymore but do stay in casual contact. One Dom i know who is very under the radar is a registered nurse. She recently went back to nursing and cut some pro domme work because contract nursing money is so good.

Funny related story. Domme I had seen a couple times came over to my house to do a session. I casually mention that I was thinking of selling or renting the house as I wasn’t there much. She tells me her day job is as a realtor and then proceeds to pitch me on using her as my realtor. Lol

I would imagine that they would be good, as they would have to be enthused enough about what they do to do it in addition to a full time job.

I've seen a few prodommes here and there over the years mention that they still take clients despite not needing the money, because it brought them into contact with a higher variety of submissives and higher quality submissives.

I would say a little over half the dommes I know personally do it part time and it’s because they have other pursuits as well. I’m laser beam focused and tend to apply everything to what I’m doing. One of my friends in particular has a “have your cake and eat it too” mindset. I just want to be the best at what I’m doing, sometimes to the detriment of other things. Both definitely have pros and cons.
To answer the original question, I think it’s definitely more common for a domme to be part time because of the access afforded by the internet.
