Sorry Soapy... it is impossible to buy any new car at all without spyware in it & it is only about to get worse since MADD convinced congress to pass new regulations requiring manufacturers to literally put spyware into all vehicles starting with the 2025 model year to prevent "impaired" driving.

In most cases, it is built into the computer systems so it is not possible to remove it without actually hacking the car & it may make it inoperable if you physically remove the sensors (for example if the car requires positive feedback from a sensor to continue running).

Mothers Against Drunk Driving?

I guess I will hold onto my current car and write congress until it dies.

That is certainly overreach.

I'm surprised it wasn't in the news in a prominent way. I guess you can blame that on the election.

Still, anti-drunk driving tech doesn't necessitate spyware, as in transmitting your data to insurance companies or in transmitting your location to anyone else.

Having the data in the car's computer is the first step. Between a simple search warrant or insurance companies just deciding that they won't insure cars that don't give them driving data, it isn't that far away.

The articles I included only speak about interloc but when it was passed, there was talk of other more spy-like technologies that detects movement in the car that the computer could interpret as being impaired in some way (and literally shutting off the car) but once installed could be leveraged for other purposes by government & corporations.

As for not being covered, it was buried in last year's infrastructure bill & there was so much other stuff in there that the media focused on that it just didn't hit the main stream.

I have a huge rant just waiting but that is way too political & this is already pretty off-topic so I will stop.
