I used to have a shelf of books when I started out as a Domme, many recommended to Me by Mistress Ayn and others in the industry. Unfortunately a lot of them are now out of print or hard to find and disappeared off My shelf when I lent them to new Dommes in training. I would love to hear some suggestions of what books really inspired others in their kink journey.

Although the book itself isn't about BDSM, I have been immensely inspired by Bilquis from Neil Gaiman's American Gods. I consider her character one of the greats in respect to FemDom. I recommend the read.

I found Bilquis to be a very interesting character in the American Gods series. She uses her divine femininity and hyper sexuality to completely ensnare men, and in a most graphic manner. Given that She is a Goddess, does She consider men giving themselves up to her completely during sex to be a sacrificial offering of some kind ? Or does She have an insatiable sexual drive that drives her to "hunt" men and to consume them during sex ? Something else ?

I can certainly see that Her character has strong connection to FemDom, although She doesn't use a safeword!! LOL!

Exactly!! She is a minor character but her presence is definitely felt.



Yes, that is the sacrifice!!! The premise of the book is the "Old Gods" (she is an old God) have to somehow remain relevant in the new world AKA America. The Old Gods are a representation of the melting pot of cultures and beliefs brought over by first generation immigrants, so as the immigrants are dying out, so are the Old Gods becoming irrelevant. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but essentially people lusting after Her is how she is worshiped and kept relevant. Personally, I don't know if I would call her sex drive insatiable more than Her drive/need/want to remain germane. But essentially, in this case the two concepts are inextricably linked.

The New Topping Book and The New Bottoming Book both were really great reads. I don't know that they necessarily taught me anything new, but I love the way the authors write together. Janet Hardy and Dossie Easton have several books on BDSM and Poly that are worth reading.

I personally found inspiration from a book called Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. A character called Mistress Denna... It's a fantasy novel, but if you've read it you'll get the parallel. (The tv show depiction was a horrible disappointment and all wrong so definitely read the book!)

I'm perhaps a little unusual as I much prefer a good Femdom novel or story to watching a video. Unfortunately they seem very thin on the ground. To begin with, the vast majority are M/f rather than F/m. Those that do feature a female dominant are often either little more than a few pages of badly written porn or are far too cerebral and esoteric for my taste. It seems very difficult to find something that combines both a decent plot outside the dungeon and character development with well written, detailed descriptions of inventive BDSM sessions.

When searching for Femdom books I often feel like Goldilocks trying to find something "just right". It can be very frustrating

Some interesting concept/scenarios but unfortunately, these look to be more short stories than actual books. I much prefer something 250-300+ pages vs 40-50.

As I've said, it seems very hard to find novels with a decent plot, dialog and well developed characters that also contain F/m BDSM themes and scenes.

Most that meet this criteria seem to be M/f.
