I want to work out 5-6 times a week, but I am trying to be more aware of needed recovery days. I was down last weekend from DOMS and skipped workouts because my birthday seemed to get in the way. But, geez, I killed it at my "Bootcamp" workout today. Better, faster, stronger. (Cue 6 million dollar man theme.)

Recovery days are like post-session after-care. We haven't always considered these things, but they help solidify the experiences.

I try to keep a strict diet, though it's hard to resist temptation with pastries literally on every corner. It's eggs, fish, and vegetables with almonds and fruit as snacks.

Having said that, you will have to fight me to the death for me to give up my fresh, small-batch butter from Normandy. I try to switch at times to olive oil, but maaaaaaaan, everything is better with butter.

I've been on some good stretches of working out frequently and making tiny but steady progress. Something happens, I take time off, and come back amazingly stronger. I thought I was giving myself enough recovery time, but duh, I was not.

I feel this. I have the same problem with frequency and intensity. I am old and it’s still very hard for me to take days off or have easy days in the gym. It’s gotten worse since the kids are grown and I’ve retired because I’ve got more free time now and less excuses. But I’ve finally realized you need days off and easy days mixed in with the hard days. You and everyone else who are still young take care of your body and be smart.

The gym is addicting. For me, it is an endorphin/adrenaline rush, and I love the progress. How cool is it when something difficult a month ago is easier? This positive addiction keeps me in a good mood.

Conversely, middle-age is terrifying. Many of my peers and elders have problems with atrophying muscles. I feel I am investing in my body for my 50s and 60s.

I agree it is satisfying when the body recovers and comes back more fit. I like monitoring the # of pullups I can do.

Or watching all the caning welts and CBT abrasions diminish. And I can't wait to do it again!
